Hi Paula,

I have checked the FamilySearch 1881 Canadian Census for your Henry. The only Henry Simpson, born 1865, lives in New Brunswick, the son of Robert & Elizabeth. There is a Henry Simpson, born 1868, living in Montreal, the son of James & Mary. There is no William Simpson, with wife Anna or Maria (or variations), origin Scotland, that is a good fit, and none with a son Henry. There is no Henry with a mother Anna.

This may indicate that William and Anna Maria were dead by the 1881 Canadian Census or that the family had left Canada for the States by 1881.

The name Henry is interesting to me, though. Henry is an ancestral name in our Simpson family. Our Peter Simpson (1834-1915), a son of a Henry, came to Ontario in 1856, from near Edinburgh. We know of no family in Massachusetts, but we know there were cousins in New Jersey.

You should look in the local papers for an obit for your Henry Gordon. It may list surviving parents and siblings.

Pat Simpson
