Hi Pat -- You might want to see my postings under Connell and O'Connell. My great-grandfather, Jeremiah Connell, had a brother James who disappeared. Since Jeremiah (one of many children) was born in 1859, the dates could fit. The family seemed to live in Hemmingford, Quebec (not far from Montreal) but ended up in Ashburnham, Massachusetts when Jeremiah was a young man. (I don't think his parents followed).
