"The Robinsons were among the "planted" families settled near Mount Mellick, Queen's County, on land confiscated from the rebel Irish in the time of Queen Elizabeth....
The Robinsons were close neighbours to the Mathews and Shaws and, like the rest, they also came together through marriage. About 1775 Richard Robinson was born. He was to be the ancestor of a great many of the residents of Montreal and environs...he left Ireland and came to Canada...Mr. Robinson settled in Montreal where he became prosperous - being in the furniture business. From these unions has sprung many of the old families in and around Montreal, among them are the Campbells, Bairds, Hampsons, Nellis, Hoppers, Scotts, Shaws, Clearys, etc."
