Your both right...

On the map St. Damase is more East than south of Montreal,....but Montrealers( I am a born and bred one) live on an island that is sandwhiched between the two shores of the St. Lawerence.

The shore above is "North", the shore below is "South", so St. Damase being on the "south"shore is refered to as "south"of Montreal.
