Well...that article along with his obituary were quite interesting. The name Ethier does exist in Quebec, but I found not tie as of yet.
One thing...both Louis and Eli were naturalized citizens. You might look for this paperwork. Look for the declaration of Intent and the Petition of naturalization. These were filled out before the actual naturalization documents. Often they contain information on parents, or place of birth, etc. It might help.
