Well, in regards to Eli I and Eli II: They are both buried (along with their wives) in the Cedar Grove Cemetary near Notre Dame in Indiana. Eli senior, my gggrandfather was friends with Father Sorin who built Notre Dame. Eli, who was a carpenter, helped him with several of the buildings on the campus. Eli is referenced in some of the Notre Dame archives, along with a story called "The Cave of Candles" about the history of the university. Lewis (which our spelling has been Louis" is also listed in the ND archives. On an archive listing (not able to see the actual documents though) is the name of Eli with the name Elios in parentheses and then behind the Hickey name was a backslash and the name Ethier (or Etier). In the past when I have googled Eli Hickey a page is listed from a surname search with that same information.

So, some information is substantiated and others have not been. I have been to a website that has described the surnames Ethier and Hickey as being linked. Sorry, I don't have that available as I write this.

There was also a link posted in the Hickey forum from by Deanna Ramirez of a 1925 news article on Eli Hickey (Sr.) that is very interesting.

All signs still point north to Canada. One other piece of information we have learned but not verified: The father of Eli Sr. possibly was named William Hickey. There is the next mystery . . .
