Kristin,
I will try to find where I saw the Xaintonge spelling. I'm pretty sure it was in several different places. I had never heard of the dit name Laliberte turning to Freeman in the States. This is really interesting to me because another branch of my husband's family is the Freemans! My husband's Senets turned into Snays in Mt. Clemens Michigan. his mother was not aware of the French-Canadian connection until someone on the Snay genforum pointed that out to me. It turned out that her entire father's family had been French until he married her mother. I will also keep an eye out for the Gareau's. Good luck!
Barbara M.
