Birth Certificate for William Rowley/Rawley, b. 1838?

Hi,

I am trying to find a birth certificate for my great-great grandfather, William Rowley (sometimes spelled Rawley or even Rolley), born supposedly on Feb. 12, 1838 in Montreal, according to his death certificate in 1915.

Would anyone be able to tell me where to look? Do records exist for this period?

In the event that anyone has access to records, I know that Montreal has separate Protestant and Catholic records, but I'm not sure whether was was Protestant or Catholic. I think he was protestant, perhaps Anglican/Episocopal.

He married three times over his life, and all three of his wives were Catholic, but he was married in Protestant churches for the first two marriages. He was born in the United Kingdom, and his mother's maiden name might have been Lucinda McKnight.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
