Josef Gence

I am trying to track my Genscin family members as they came to the New World. Most of them went to the US, but I believe some came to Canada. Josef Gence may be one of these. Josef, then age 17, arrived in Quebec on 15 May 1925 on the ship Melita. He is described as being from Czechoslovakia. The family is from that part of the country that is now Slovakia, near Kosice.

How do I begin finding what happened to him after his arrival? I believe he may be related to my g-uncle Joe Gence who appears in the US Census in 1900 in Philadelphia. The name in the US has now settled mostly to Gensey, but there are numerous variants.

In the "normal" run of things, I would expect that Josef died between 1950 and 1980. Is there any centralized death listing for Canada, similar in concept to the US Social Security Death Index, that would allow me to pinpoint the date of Josef's death? There is also a possibility, though I am skeptical of it, that Josef may have left Canada for the US.
