MURRAY, Elsie Noreen (Rains)

Dear mother of Elizabeth, Edith, Lenore, Walter, and Lorna. Sister of the late Victoria (Ross) Agnew, the late Winnifred (late Austin) Brayley, Elleda (late Frederick) Rushworth, and Linda (Michael) Harrison. Daughter of the late Edgar and Bessie Rains.
Cremation and memorial took place in Ottawa on March 17th. At Noreen's request her ashes will be brought home to St. Joseph's Island this summer.

Here is a listing of the original Murray family
John "donn" Murray 1822-1901, son of John Murray of Tolsta, Lewis and Mary Nicolson 1821, daughter of John Nicolson Q154
John N 1848 married Kirsty Campbell Q34
Murdo 1856 married Ann Nicolson Q154
Angus N 1858-1948 married 1) Catherine Smith Q204
2) Mary Ann Campbell Q34
John J 1862 married Catherine Nicolson Q156
Ann 1865 married Neil Murray Q130

This information is taken from "A Register of Emigrant Families from the Western Isles of Scotland to the Eastern Townships of Quebec", written by Bill Lawson who is the leading authority in Lewis regarding these Scottish emigrants. In his book, your Murrays are Q129. You can see that the children of John married other Scottish immigrants from the same place (Isle of Lewis). The names of spouses are followed by their "Q" number and are listed in the book.
My families came from the same place during the same years, but settled in Bruce County Ontario. I have gathered quite a few books etc and will gladly scan the pages concerning your Murrays and email them if you are interested.
