She can contact the Standesamt (Registry Office) in Wold for a copy of her father's birth certificate (with proof of his death) or a copy of her grandparent's marriage record, but I am having difficulty finding a town named Wold in Germany.

Ah, here's the answer. Xavier Unfried arrived in Canada at Halifax in May 1927 aboard the Bremen, aged 25 (so born about 1902), last of Wald, Germany, bound for Winnipeg; gives his father, Xavier Unfried of Aist, Bavaria.

Now the issue will be figuring out which "Wald" he means. In English, it means forest and it is used in several different town names in Germany.
