In case you decide this is the right family, Janet's maiden name was Black, the daughter of Hugh & Euphemia (from an online tree at Ancestry). Born 1807 in Lismore, Argyllshire, Scotland. She died in 1853 in Stephen Township, Huron County. Indicates that oldest son, Hugh, was born in Grenville County (eastern Ontario) on 25 March 1831. Died 1913 in Saskatchewan.

Murdoch was born 1804 in the Isle of Mull, Scotland, the son of Archibald McPhee and Margaret Graham. He died in 1879 in Stratford, Ontario. He and Janet were married in 1829 in Lochliel, Upper Canada (Glengarry County).

His siblings also seemed to marry in Canada -- some in Montreal -- so the family must have emigrated quite early. They should appear in Donald White's Scottish Emigrants to Canada before Confederation.
