William gave you a lot, but I found a bit more. There is a US WW1 draft reg. for Russel Creighton Stewart which shows him as born
July 2, 1878. It says he is a US citizen by father's naturalization before registrar's majority - which should mean his father was naturalized before Russel became an adult.
So that tells me that he would have come to the US with his parents - or at least with his father.
Odd thing - 1920 census shows Russell arrived US 1890, 1930 census says he arrived 1883
AHH - just found death for Russell which shows wife as Hulda so that fits AND shows parents as Alfred Stewart and Mabel West. (you can see this entry at familysearch.org) - free site
Minnesota, Deaths and Burials, 1835-1990
death: 28 Jan 1940 Minnetonka, Hennepin, Minnesota
parents: Alfred Stewart, Mabel West
spouse: Hulda H. Stewart
name: Russell Stewart
death date: 28 Jan 1940
death place: Minnetonka, Hennepin, Minnesota
birth date: 1881
marital status: Married
spouse's name: Hulda H. Stewart
father's name: Alfred Stewart
mother's name: Mabel West
indexing project (batch) number: B02546-8

BUT even with this added info I have not found the family in 1881 Canada census, nor in 1880 US. I also did not find a marriage for an Alfred Stewart and Mabel West in Ontario.
