am looking for the ancestors of Alfred Blais, my great-grandfather who emigrated to the states. (also possibly under the name Blair. He is the one my father says changed the name of his children to BLAIR so his descendants no longer carry the name BLAIS.)
Alfred Blais was a native of St. Cajeton D'Armagh (district or parish, not sure about all that) in, I think, Bellechase Quebec,Canada. Born E1871, moved to Holyoke, Mass USA in 1881. Stayed in Holyoke 3 years, moved to Westfield, MA where he bought his own dairy farm at age 19. (Holsteins). Also worked in a whip factory for 35 years. Don't know the wedding date, but was married 60+years (1895, in Massachusetts according to my research) to Delina Bail (I believe also an emigrant from canada) born E1876 had 5 sons, Daniel of Springfield, MA, George of W. Springfield, MA, Richard of Northfield, Herman Alfred Blair of Boston (Watertown, MA-- my grandfather born 8/5/1898), Samuel of Michigan and Cora of Westfield, MA. died age 88. Delina Bail's family owned a large grocery store in Chicopee, MA called "Bail's." That's about all I know of Alfred, so any leads, even immigration are helpful. I know nothing ancestral beyond him on that branch of the family and a few of us have been looking. The name change has made it a challenge. Thanks for any insights you can offer. :)
