JOHN MATHER of Montrose, Keewatin & Winnipeg
Posted by: Dorothy Mather (ID *****4938) Date: October 19, 2002 at 17:32:23

I am looking for a woman who lives in the Winnipeg area who is compiling a family history of the MATHER family, specifically John Mather, born Montrose, Angus, Scotland, November 1827 and died in Ottawa, June 10, 1907. This man was a pioneer in the Keewatin area and was responsible for forming the Keewatin Lumbering & Manufacturing Co. and arranged to build a sawmill with a capacity of 30,000,000 feet per annum. He also built the first post office, was chairman of the school board and built the first Presbyterian Church. I desperately need to corroborate some facts regarding his family. He had 4 children: David Low Mather, Allan G. Mather, Robert A. Mather and Jemima Jane. If anyone can put me in touch with this person, I would be very grateful. I haven't been able to get too much information from Kenora.

Thank you.
