My great grandparents Ilko and Paraska Huzijak (now Huziak) emmigrated from Toporowce, district Horodenka, Galicia in 1900. They had a son Wasyl (age 7) and a daughter Jelena (Olena, age 2). They arrived in Halifax on July 2, 1900 and then took a train to Winnipeg. They stayed in an immigration house near the train station. Sometime in July or August they went to their homestead near Wroxton, Saskatchewan.
Jelena died either on the train or in Winnipeg. I have been unable to find where she is buried. Does anyone know what the government officials did with the bodies of immigrant chidlren who died upon arrival to Winnipeg? The Huziaks had no money, so they would not have been able to pay for a burial.
