I am trying to ascertain if a Richard John Phillips, commonly known as Jack, lived in Winnepeg during the period of 1906 to 1908...or even before or after those dates.
His brother, my grandfather, Thomas Edwin Phillips, stated in his naturalization papers that he came to Canada on the maiden voyage of the ship Empress of Ireland, which landed in Quebec in July 1906. He stated that he had come to visit his brother in Winnepeg, and that he later, in September 1907, crossed the border and took a train to Des Moines, IA to visit "the lady who is now my wife." He married my grandmother in Des Moines, and a year later moved to NW Nebraska, where he filed his petitions for citizenship.
If anyone has access to Winnepeg city directories or census information which might list Richard John Phillips [or Jack Phillips] during this period, I would be very grateful for the information. The brothers were born in Truro, England, and Richard J apparently went back there to live, as he died in England in 1954.
