i have a copy of grandmother's certificate of baptism dated Mar 11,1889 from St.Paul's Cathdral in Kamloops. On it her name was spelled Ethel Harriet Libetter. I also have a letter from her mother Sarah Creighton dated Dec 20,1897 written on letterhead from the St. James Hotel in New Denver,BC. At or before this date the great grandparents had split up. I located Sarah in the Williams Official BC Directory of 1897-1898 in Sandon as a laundry woman. I found a marriage certificate for Washington County dated 14 June 1899. On it were listed Sarah of Cascade City, BC wedded to George Carman of Grand Forks,BC.

The great grandfather is found in the 1901 census under the name of John Smith living in New Westminster, BC as a divorced person with all 4 children listed under the name of Smith as well. My grandmother was married under this name in North Vancouver, BC on 28th of June 1911.

I have so far not been able to find any divorce or death certificate for John Smith(James Liberty)
