Hi Ann - there was a post office named Flagstone in BC but it did not seem to exist until 1910 near the town of Fernie in the Kootenay area of BC (very near the US border on a road #93). The post office was moved around the area a few times and the name changed to Grasmere in 1958. That may still be there.
Your John may have gone to Flagstone area to work on the railroad as many are listed as rail workers of some kind in the 1911 census of that area.
He may also have first landed in the US (Seattle maybe) as none of the ships from June 1905 docking in Vancouver or Victoria seem to have come from Europe. Will try to check that out.
Gail R.
