No there isn't. Deaths are listed by each province and each of them makes them publically available (usually after 70 years or so) as they please. The federal government doesn't a death index of any kind.

However, I'm sure you can find a volunteer who will look up that death registration; maybe even an obit which should hopefully help. Also, if a funeral home is listed, and still in business, contact them. They might be able to give you a bit more info from their files.
