Thank you all for your help, but I feel that the Smithfield should actually be Smithville, a lack of understanding on the part of whoever made out my g'fathers'enlistment papers, as there is a town of this name just west of Saskatoon where he enlisted.. in those days my g'father spoke very little english ,and possibly in his welsh accent Smithville sounded like Smithfield to the army.
