Heather: Thank you for your interest. The English information is accurate, but our information after 1903 leaves many questions.
Dave SALTER, nephew of George SALTER, has George's birth certificate from Dr. Barnardo's. For sure, he was b.Oct. 25, 1892, @ 156 Kirkgate, Wakefield, Yorkshire, England. There were 10 children in the family & the children were separated when the mother died. George, as a British Home Child, left Liverpool on S.S. Dominion, July 15, 1903, arriving at Quebec, July 24, 1903. Then we lose him till 1911 census, when he is found as a lodger with the John C. NELSON family near Fort MacLeod, Alberta. The NELSON family were all born in US.
We have George's petition for US Naturalization, sworn & affirmed in Tacoma, Washington, 1912, & listed as single.
If the George SALTER in Montana is the correct George, he was killed 1918, in WW1. We are still investigating this last bit of information.
As you see, we do have definite information re. George from Dr. Barnardo's, the Canadian 1911 census, & his US Naturalization form, but the years 1903-1911, plus 1912 on are still indefinite.
We have been most fortunate with various volunteers who, like you, have offered assistance and we sincerely appreciate all the help we have been given. Thank you.
