"LESTER FRANCIS CAMPBELL, "Les," was born December 16, 1899, in New Haven, Connecticut, where he now lives.
"His father, Michael Francis Campbell, was born in New Haven, Connecticut, where he is a life insurance agent for the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company.His mother, whose maiden name was Frances Barbara Hughson, lived in New Haven before her marriage.Of the five children in the family, three sons and two daughters, four are now living.Lewis Campbell Sheridan, 1920 S., and Harold J. Sheridan, 1911 S., are Yale relatives.
"Les was prepared at the New Haven High School.He took the Mechanical Engineering Course; in his Freshman year received honors of the second grade for excellence in all studies; and a prize for excellence in drawing and description geometry; was given two-year honors for excellence in all studies in his Junior year; and as a Senior received an election to Sigma Xi.He lived at home.
"Campbell entered service October 3, 1918, in New Haven, Connecticut, and served as an Apprentice Seaman in the U. S. Naval Unit at Yale until he was assigned to inactive duty December 21, 1918.
