Dear Cecillia,
I really liked your report and knowledge.
My concern is an unresolved issue regarding my 6th grt grandfather Neil Campbell Principal at Glasgow College, called Dr of Divinity in his day.Evidently he is often considered the 'natural' child of either Archibald 9th Earld 1685 or his son Hon Major John ...via a relationship withmy 7th grt grandmother Jean McIver Campbell heiress of Pennymore who was some sort of attendant for the Countess of Argyll (and even chewed andswallowedincriminating letters).
It seems like I will not find out for sure who his father was, perhaps another Major John C of Duntroon someone suggestedthat once. If you can shed any light on this all, I would be most appreciative.I would appreciate help from Duntroon Campbells too, (only if they have a good sense of humour.)
This child Neil C. married Henrietta Campbell which would be some sort of cousin to him probably...she was a daughter of PatrickC. of Kilduskland and direct descendant of both Archibald Laird of Auchinbrek and Margaret C. Countess of Ardkinglas, connected to the Seton-Gordons , Lamont and others '"of that Ilk", (an expression that is finally useful to me)Their son was my 5th grt Duncan C. who married his 2nd? cousin Rebecca C on Jamaica.
Duncan's neice married Adm Sir William Bligh, so I am also looking for more Campbell related Bligh cousins, especially O'Connells if any are out there alive or connected with the Earls of Darnley or Blighs of Cornwall, England.
I am also looking for Campbell+ Launce family...
of Jamaica and Britain.
I was wondering if you had information on Principal Neil's parentage, Campbells of Pennymore, or any on Jamaican Campbells...Neil wasfor awhile raised byMajor John Campbell of Blackriver Jamaica, (who was his either uncle or halfbrother)Johnwas on Jamaica by 1695, 10 years afterEarl Arch. and son John were executed, Hon John had his arms off first for some extra attention. The John C ofBlackriver Jamaica married the VIRGINIAN Katherina Claiborne.
I too am a Campbell Hon. , Earl or Duke seeker.
I realise after the 9th Earl 's and son's execution, the direct line strayed and the current Duke* etc are a convoluted occurrence andsome damage control, (nice and pregnant as they have been lately), and that near and dear relations are probably not in Virginia unless they are having a trip or job relocation.
I have 2 ancestors from Duncan 'na adh' Campbell;Archibald “Gillespic” and Colin from a 2nd wife.I gather every Campbell descendant does, which means we are all related toseveral R Bruces,a Wallace, Strongbow, M Queen of Scots etc? and some Scottish saints.
thank you very much for any clues,
yours
David
*Archibald is a fine name for everyone, girls too.
