Sarah Buchanan & Francis Preston; Abington, VA,1830
I am not researching this family, just entering information from one of my books "Houses Virginians Have Loved" by Agnes Rothery, 1954:
"When General Francis Preston and his wife, Sarah Buchanan Campbell, built their house in Abingdon it was the most costly residence in Southwest Virginia. This was in 1830-1832, about a hundred years after their ancestors had emigrated to America from Ulster Province in Northern Ireland and settled in Augusta County, Virginia, at that time a wilderness with only a few white settlers. The house...was at one time part of the Martha Washington College and is now part of the Martha Washington Inn."(photograph)
