Veronica ‘Runtie’ (Smith) Camp Obit
HUDSON — Veronica Lorraine “Runtie” Camp, 96, of Hudson died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at Lenawee County Medical Care Facility in Adrian.
She was born Feb. 15, 1912, in Hudson, Mich., to Will and Hattie (Gerry) Smith. On July 4, 1933, she married Earl Wesley Camp at Sacred Heart Church. He preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 1975. Runtie attended Sacred Heart Church, where she enjoyed cleaning and decorating the altar for Mass. She loved gardening, and could frequently be found maintaining Calvary Cemetery in Hudson.
Veronica was a cook for Hudson Area Schools for 22 years, where she became Grandma Camp to many.
Devoted and loving mother of six, Veronica is survived by three daughters, Nancy Peebles of Lyons, Ohio, Peggy and Delmar Marry of Hudson, and Cathy and Jack McLarty of Canton, Mich.; two daughters-in-law, Betty Camp of Hudson and Melody Camp of Adrian; one sister, Grace Christian of Bradenton, Fla.; 23 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Richard, Lawrence and infant son Joseph Camp; five sisters, Maureen Beamesderfer, Mildred Williams, Madeline Armstrong, Barbara Steele and Rita Kaiser; and brother, Clifford Smith.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Hudson, Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Father Paul Ruddy, OSFS, and Father Rick Eberle, OSFS, concelebrating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home, Hudson, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will be visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church Saturday.
