Cammack, Spalding, LINCS, Lenton, NOTTS.

My great-grandmother, Diana Smith, from Kirton-in-Lindsey (1854-1923), was first married to one Edmund Cammack, a solicitor of Hastings, Sussex. He died prior to her second marriage to my great-grandfather, James Roberts (1854-1890), on 8 July 1877.

Edmund Cammack and Diana Smith had one daughter Harriet Mary Cammack, later Mrs P.J. Vinter, of York, who was educated somewhere near Stickney, according to her son, Peter, born 1914, now of Wimbledon. Harriet Mary, called "Trots" in the family, was my mother's 1/2 aunt as well as her godmother. She was a 'theatre sister', i.e. an operating room nurse in a big London hospital prior to her marriage in 1912. She was named for her two grandmothers, Harriet Reckitt, Mrs Thomas Cammack, and Mary Ranby, Mrs Edmund Dry Smith. Apart from the names of those paternal grandparents, who were married at Lenton, Notts., on 16 Oct. 1834, I know very little of the Cammack family, though possibly more than 'uncle Peter' does. I have discovered that Edmund, his grandfather, was baptised at Spalding on 10 Jan. 1844 as was an elder brother, William Cammack, on 12 Jan. 1842. There may have been other children, but, as yet, they haven't turned up in my searches.
