Dear Ruth,
The book I alluded to is available under that title on Amazon.
http://www.jstor.org/pss/27570150http://www.jstor.org/pss/27570150
According to this article in the above URL avaliable on JSTOR (you may have to go to a nearby college or university library for free access) Alexander Cameron had two daughters and one son, George, by "Molly," by his Indian common law wife or mistress. This article is 21 pages long and was published by John L. Nichols in the S. C. Historical Magaziine in 1996.Anyone interested in Alexander Cameron, Indian Agent, would find reading this rewarding. This article will correct some of my statements in my earlier posting.
I saw a posting on the internet in which someone claimed to have information suggesting that Alexander Cameron's son, Alexander,Jr., was married to a daughter of Edward Fenwick (of Fenwick Hall near Charleston. Edward Fenwick's sister was married to Col. John Stuart, Superintendant of Indian Affairs in the southern colonies, and immediate superior to Alexander Cameron.Alexander took over his job when Stuart died.I have found nothing to support the notion that Alexander Cameron had a family other than is reported in this article, but I did come across two interesting pieces of information. One was a Charleston marriage record of the widow, Matilda Cameron to a man named Giles. The other was the will of Edward Fenwick's widow leaving only a shilling against any claims to her estate to her daughter, Matilda Giles.I don't know if Matilda had children by her first marriage, and I have no proof that there would have been a connection with Alexander Cameron.Alexander Cameron would have been thrown togetherwith the Fenwick family by association with Mrs. Stuart, so this connection is plausible.
