My great-grandfather was Colin (or Collin) W. (probably William) Cameron. He was born in Nova Scotia in 1862 or 1863. He immigrated to the US (Massachusetts) in the early to mid 1880s. His father (according to Colin's marriage record, m. 1890 in Boston to Emily McLean) was Hugh Cameron and his mother was Isabella. I think that I have found this (the Hugh Cameron) family in the 1881 Canadian Census. If I've identified the correct record they lived at that time in Hastings, Inverness, NS. The family was Catholic and composed at that time of Hugh Cameron (60), Ishabel (59), John (24), Margaret (20) and Collin (17). All are listed as having been born in Nova Scotia. This information is consistent with other info that I have, like the family being RC and Colin having an older sister Margaret. What is probably the same family appears in the 1871 Census in Plaister Cove, Inverness, NS. In that case, Hugh's birth is given as Scotland and Isabella's age as 40 when it "should be" 50 or 49. But all the other information is consistent and I do think they are the same people. Does anyone recognize this Hugh Cameron? know Isabel's maiden name? Thanks for any help, Linda Notify Administrator about this message?
