My father, J.G. Cameron, 1890-1968, was County Engineer(Peng) for Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry from 1917, until 1962.My Grandfather, Donald Cameron(b 1847)had been a Reeve of Finch Township and was auditor of Finch Township for thirty years. My Uncle, D.B. Cameron(1883-1981) was Clerk Treas. of Finch Township from 1911 until 1926.My father had excellent family records.
My father descended from Donald Cameron(Cluns), killed March 1809, Lot 21, Concession 4,Finch Township(The Cameron School==built by my gt grandfather at the end of the lane from the house where my father was born)and his wife, Ann(Nancy) Cameron, b c 1779(1851 Finch Census out by three years)the daughter of John Cameron, b c 1747, and his wife, Marjory Cameron, b c 1747, who migrated from Greenock(Inveruiskavouline/Glenloy)in 1804, landing at Montreal in September 1804..Donald Cameron, my gtgt, and his brother,Allan Cameron, 'went north' to Finch Township in 1808(not 1814 as stated in Belden Atlas). They were the sons of John Cameron, South Branch Road(Lot 6-4 Cornwall). The South Branch Road and the Summerstown Road intersect.Donald and Nancy had lived with her relatives near the Summerstown Road until going north to Finch Township in 1808.Donald's family mig. in 1773.
My father's MacMillan ancestors migrated in 1802(i.e. - my grandfather Cameron's grandfather was Archie MacMillan(son of John of Callich, Pg 80-Bygone Lochaber)Lot 20-3 Finch, and his wife, Marjory MacMillan, daughter of Ewen MacMillan, son of Allan Glenpean.)
There have been many errors published in books and articles about my family. An Alexander Cameron along with his sons, John Cameron, Donald Cameron, and Allan Cameron, migrated in 1802, trekking to Finch Township from Lochiel Township c 1802 and were first Camerons in Finch Township. My father's first cousins(Hugh D. Cameron, etc) were related to the Camerons 'across the road' from the Cameron School through their MATERNAL grandmother, Janet Cameron, but the Camerons across the road from Cameron School were NOT related to my father, JGC, or to me.I was not related to 'any' Finch Cameron.
Mrs. A.D. Cameron(Ann Sutherland (1869-1962) was the sister to my Grandmother Cameron(Catharine Sutherland Cameron 1854-1949)and was the second wife to my Grandfather Cameron's brother, Archibald D. Cameron (b1856 buried Finch Cem.)She had one son, Stanley Cameron. My Aunt Hanna Cameron MacLean(1891-1983)who married the brother to my Mother, descended from the first wife of Uncle Archie. The mother to my grandmother and her sister, Mrs. A.D. Cameron, was Margaret MacMillan(1832-1912)daughter of Duncan Ban MacMillan(b glennevis 1783-d 1861)and Mary MacMillan(b Achnacarry 1794, daughter of Angus MacMillan of Callich(Lot 20-1 Finch; Lot 14-3)Angus mig. 1802(MacMillans..amazon.com)
Because of the closely meshed ancestry of my family it is difficult for others to unravel the skeins....A gentleman by the name of Zeran insisted that he was related to the Camerons of the Cameron School...he was related to my father's first cousins through their maternal grandmother, a relation to the 'Camerons across the road"......no relation to me...

One can well understand why so many errors have been made in local publications about my family and by gen.
