Dear Sir:
Unfortunately this is not my Alexander Cameron. My Alexander did fight in the battle of Waterloo, and according to a copy of a letter that was written to Sir Alan Cameron -it stated - "We both (Alexander & Archibald) escaped getting badly hurt which was a miracle, and we are thankful for it.In consequence of all my superior officers being either killed or wounded the honour of taking the 79th Cameron Highlanders, out of the field devolved on me."It goes on to say "they were frightfully attacked and became disordered at times. Our brave Col. was seriously wounded on the 16th but during the day he was always reminding us of Toulouce, but we managed to all keep together."It ends by saying"Your faithful nephew, Alexander. Alexander for his bravery was given a land grant in Canada, if he would imigrate, which he did.We have the original land grant, which is dated 1821.In reading books there were quite a few Alexanders and do beleive I read about an Alex that was killed in battle. Thanks for your note, sorry I couln't help out more.
