Regarding your question about how to access Spanish census records, go to Adams County, MS message board. One of the latest messages gives a URL you can click and go to the 1792 Spanish census index of Natchez District, MS.It includes several Calvits but mostly with Spanish interpretation of names such as Guillermo Calvit(William)in SS(Dist. of Second and Sandy Creek), Tomas(Thomas) of VG, and a few others.Jeptha Higdon was there, too, enumerated in SC.
There were three mentions of Jeptha Higdon in Terr. Papers of MS, Natchez. One of them included info. about Jeptha Higdon who said he knew land (2-1795) on River Big Black, MS that was in question. It was surveyed in 1790 by William Calvit, who built the house thereon and planted peach trees. On Ancestry.com there is a mention of Jeptha Higdon and Maria(Mary) Higdon on early Natchez, MS census records. Both of them were located in Santa Catalina District.
