Hello Roger,

Yes, I can tell you that Roger Callow(e) was the son of John Callowe and his wife Ann Hunt. Roger was baptised on the 22nd of March 1622/23 at Ticehurst, Sussex.

His paternal grandfather, John (Johannes) CALLOWE (my 10xGt Grandfather) was also a member of the clergy and was formerly a schoolmaster at Hellingly, where he married in 1623 to Elizabeth LEASE.

John senior served at Westham, Sidlesham and Ticehurst, where he died in 1680.

John Callow jnr was the youngest known son of John sen. and Elizabeth. He was baptised at Westham on 4 Jan 1634/35.

Roger married Susannah Jenkin (year and place not yet known). They had at least two children; William bapt. 1 Jul 1701 at Warbleton, and Ann.

Roger is my 1st cousin 10x removed.

He was ordained as a Deacon on 24/09/1682 and as a priest on 20/09/1684.

On 04/05/1687 he was appointed as the Curate to Mountfield.

In June, 1695, he transferred as a Curate to Beckley.

He became the Rector of Warbleton on 01/12/1699 and remained there in that position to the date of his death, 03/08/1732.

I am interested to know more about any of the Callow family, and can supply a good amount of information on some of the lines.

The common use of some names, some multiple marriages and a lot of moving around has made it difficult to be certain of some lines of descent, so any information that will clarify things will be gratefully accepted.

Cheers,

Heather,
Victoria, Australia
