I lost my e-mails and now have recovered them on a newer computer. Sorry to not answer immediately.I have not been able to find anything in County Clare on my ggrandfather Simon C. Carey born ca. 1844. I believe his father died sometime around 1855-60. Simon came to the US with a brother (or so the family story goes). He ended up in the Marion County, Missouri 1860 census. Married in 1863 and had one son.Joined the Civil War and came home in 1865 and died. Not much to go on. His military papers state he was born in County Clare, Ireland. I understand there was some problem with the priest when Simon's father died and that created the need for Simon and his brother to leave Ireland and come to the US. I have seen the name Callinan connected with the Carey name in parish records.I visited Kilmacduane, Cooraclare and Kilrush not long ago and the Carey name is in abundance, but found nothing about Simon C. Carey. Do you have any information that might shed light on this ellusive ancestor of mine?
