A.H. Callihan - Nederland, Texas
Hello,
I am looking for any information regarding A. H. Callihan and Ruby Callihan (an uncle and aunt) who lived in Nederland, TX from at least 1946 to 1950, probably longer. He and Ruby owned the Callihan Insurance Agency, founded in 1946.They were also involved in land development. He may have had an interest in horse racing and may have owned an interest in one or more race horses. After the death of A.H. Callihan in 1950, Ruby moved away from Nederland. She later contracted tuberculosis and was hospitalized at the Nix hospital in San Antonio, where I first recall meeting her as a very small child, probably about 1955.Though she recoverd from the TB, her health was impaired and she lived in a semi-invalid state for many years. She died in 1991 in Bexar County.
Possibly related to the Callihan line is Mildred Fisher, a "cousin" who came from either East Texas or Louisiana to live and tend to Ruby after her recovery from TB.My recollections of Mildred are the stuff fairy tales are made of - sweet, kind, gentle, humorous, caring, loving, and lovable, plus she always had someting good to eat for a kid with an appetite. One of her sons was named Redwood.
Thanks,
Paul Kerr
