Hello John,
It's probably the same family. I looked at the Ordinance Survey Map for the area and your grandfather's town may have been "Kilgerrill". It's north of the main road from Ballinasloe to Kilconnell and on the road leading to Callow and Lake Calla where the Callanan family seat is (was) located. Calla House is now owned by Joe Callanan a member of the Dail from East Galway. Do you know of any connections to families with the surnames: Hillary; O'Connor; Dunn; Bennett; Hayden? Do you know if your Callanan's are buried in Kilconnell Abbey, the old Franciscan Monastery? I'm from Yonkers, NY. Are you still on L.I.?
