Colhoun Biography now available
"Our Honoured Relation, John Ewing and Floride Bonneau Colhoun and the Unification of South Carolina," 372 pages including a 31 page full name index, published in hardback by Southern Historical Press, is now available from the author. The cost is $40 plus $5 shipping and handling.
This work relies on the unpublished Colhoun papers in the South Caroliniana Library and other primary and secondary sources. John Ewing Colhoun was the first cousin and father-in-law of John C. Calhoun. His estate first acquired the property which later passed to John C. Calhoun and Thomas Green Clemson and became the site of Clemson University. His early life and his legal, farming and political careers provide a microscope through which to view the unification of South Carolina from two discrete geographic areas (low country and up country) into a unified whole.
The index leads to information on a number of prominent and less well known early South Carolinians (Calhouns, Kerrs, Greens, DeSaussures, Nobles, Bonneaus, and many others).
