The curator of Clemson University in Clemson, SC, the site of the original 1200 acre plantation of John C. Calhoun, is about to begin the planning stages of the next Calhoun Reunion. As the planning progresses, they will be preparing information pamphlets and invitations to send out to all interested parties and to those with Calhoun ancestry. If you would like to receive information on this next reunion, then be sure that your mailing information is on their mailing list. (Your mailing information will not be used for any other purpose). To get on the list, e-mail or mail your information to : Owen Calhoun 268 Gardenview Drive Burlington, Ontario, Canada L7T 1K6 ocalhoun@cogeco.ca The last Calhoun Reunion at Clemson was in July of 1993 and was a huge success. Everyone was just so overjoyed, had a great time and no one wanted to leave when it was over. There was an exchange of addresses, telephone numbers and plenty of family information. There were plenty of pictures taken and also a few group photos of everyone that attended. It is not certain exactly when the next reunion will take place but start getting prepared with your family information, photos to share, questions to ask, start making notes, and get ready for the thrill of a lifetime. An experience like never before is about to be upon you. If you would like to take part in some way with the organizing of the reunion, if you have something to offer that you believe others would be interested in, if you have something to contribute to the success of this reunion, then by all means, drop me a line and I will try to arrange for your contribution. Send your contact information as soon as possible so that you are on the invitation list. Be sure to also spread the word to all of your family, relatives, contacts and friends. I will be bringing copies of the four volumes of "Our Calhoun Family" written by my father, Orval Calhoun. I will also be helping interested parties to search for their family information in the books. To help find your family information in the books, you will require the birthdates of your earliest known ancestors such as your gr-grandfather along with his birthdate, preferably into the 1700's or 1800's. Contact your oldest living relatives and start asking questions about their grandparents or great-grandparents. Get names, birthdates, names of parents, brothers, sisters, birthplaces and burial places. No question is out of line and may hold the key to what you are looking for. Find out where your grandparents were born, lived, worked, married and died. Get stories about how they lived, what they did, things that happened during their lifetime, copies of their wills, deeds, etc. I will be just as disappointed as you are if I am not able to find your information in the books. At the last reunion at Clemson, I did not have an index to the books and was not able to find information for a few people. This time I have an index and I am confident that I will find most of the information for those who have early birthdates for their ancestors. Looking forward to hearing from you and seeing you at the next Calhoun reunion. Owen Calhoun Notify Administrator about this message?
