Calhoun Family Genealogy Forum

There is not a single family of Colquhoun/Calhoun in Texas. We host tents at Texas highland games, and keep records of three lines that we know of, and often hear of other lines that appear to have no connections to the three better documented ones: The Calhoun/Pickens family that arrived in Texas during or immediately following the Civil War were descendants of John C. Calhoun, VP, Secy State, Senator, Representative, etc. etc. The Colquhoun/Calhoun line that ended up in the Temple area were descendants of Archibald Colquhoun of Dumbartenshire Scotland by way of Cumberland County, North Carolina. The Colquhoun/Calhoun line that ended up in the Palestine and Grand Saline area were descendants of Malcolm Colquhoun of Cumberland County, North Carolina. We have a line out of Sam (Samuel?) Calhoun who was a Texas mercenary, gun for hire or some such, and another line out of a Methodist minister who was one of the descendants of Malcolm Colquhoun, previously mentioned. My own line is "none of the above", but we are the first in Texas.
If any of this posting crosses your information, give me another clue and we'll attempt to put your line together.
