Dear Tim, There probably almost certainly is a connection. The only problem is bridging the gap between the info you have and the info others have. You say Arthur was born in 1811 thus his father John would have been born in the late eighteenth century, for sake of argument say around 1780. My ancestor who came to America (David) had a brother John but he was born in the early Eighteenth century. However these two brothers had Nine Uncles. My guess is you are descended from one of these lines, one of whom was named John. (he was born in 1663 perhaps the grandfather of your John) As you can see ten sons over two generations with no birth control creates the possibility of 50 or more possible sources for your line. If they were Colhouns or Colquhouns from co. Tyrone my guess is they are definitely related. I will dig a little bit further and let you know if I find anything. Also there are others on this forum who might be able to assist you. Good Luck.
