Sorry for not checking into just who your James Martin Calhoun would be.After reading that he was a relative to John C. Calhoun, and died in Alabama, I can almost assure you that my Calhouns are not related.Mine are from the Pennsylvania branch, arriving in PA in 1820, and if they are related to John C., it is only very distantly from Irish ancestors.I have spent many years trying to "nail down' any kinship, to no avail.I would hate to have my now-deceased Grandmother Calhoun learn that she was not a close relative, as that was something she was most proud of claiming.Sorry for not knowing about your James Martin Calhoun.
