Belle,
Thank you for your response. My ancestors did notrelate a lot of information on ancestors. What I remember (and my Mom and Aunt were sure of) was that my great-great grandfather was a John C. Calhoun. They thought
(and we believed) that our great grandfather was also a John Chalmus. Calhoun. Per marriage certificate in Troy, Pike Co., Alabama, great grandfather was Jacob..who married our great grandmother Caroline Seal (s). They had 2 children before he was killed in the battle of Franklin, Tennessee in Nov. 1864.
Their son was also namedJohn C. Calhoun but I can find no proof of his middle name.
This John C. did name one of his sons Jacob. He named a daughter Challie (short for Chalmus?)
Caroline came to Texas in 1884 with her and daughter and son-in-law and died here in 1925.
Her son son, John C. married in Waco, Texas and they went to Okla. territory with my
grand-parents and Caroline.
Certainly would like to clear this little mystery up.
Any help is appreciated. By the way, I am not writing a book and any info you provide does not go out to anyone else without your permission.
