You are referring to this James Augustus Caldwell of NC?

James Augustus Caldwell (1820-1876) of Morganton, NC, was the son of Col. John (b. 1799) and Hannah Robinson (b. 1795) Caldwell. He entered the University in 1838, joined the Dialectic Society, and graduated in 1842. He became a banker and planter, serving in the NC House of Commons in 1852.

I am looking for information about my ancestor John [middle name Vernon?] Caldwell
b. 4 Dec 1799 VT/NH?, son of George CALDWELL
d. 12 Dec 1869 Baraboo, Sauk Co WI (Baraboo News Republic 24 Nov 1869 obit)
Kingsbury, George Washington. "George Caldwell." History of Dakota Territory, 4.841-42.
George C'aldwell was one of the early settlers of South Dakota and . . . passed away on the 29th of September, 1887.
He was born at South Bend, Indiana, December 18, 1841. The Caldwell family is of Scotch-Irish descent,
the first representative of the family in America being, so far as is known, George Caldwell, who left Ireland in the eighteenth century.
He was the father of John Caldwell, who lived and died in Indiana and who in turn was the father of George Caldwell of this review.
The last named when twelve or fourteen years of age went to Wisconsin and located in Sauk county.

Our John Caldwell has a son named John Augustus Caldwell, so I wonder if there might be some relationship?
