John CALDWELL was born 1742 in Scotland. He arrived in America in 1770. He settled in Cherry Valley, Tyron Co., NY, where he had fifty acres of tenant land, eight of them cleared, and a potash works. He joined Sir John Johnson on 15 Aug 1777 at Fort Stanwix, serving until the end of the war. He served in the King's Royal Regiment of NY, 1st battalion. In 1783 he was residing at Montreal. He claimed 145 sterling, and recieved 50 sterling. He may POSSIBLY be the younger brother of Curtis CALDWELL who was a loyalist in SC.
