I have I believe a JAMES and ANN ? CALDWELL of York County (formerly part of Lancaster County, and later became part of Adams County, PA. I do not have any info about them, only that I believe my Great Great Great Grandfather, WILLIAM CALDWELL who married REBECKAH ?, was born 1759, and served in the Revolutionary War. I believed he stayed long enough in Adams County to do the Census for the County in 1820, then had his Revolutionary War pay collected for him by an attorney in Gettysburg (Adams Co.) I do not know where my WILLIAM and wife lived, whether it was Gettysburg or not. They went to VA, and their son, ANDREW, was born in Russell County. I do not know whether this is helpful info to you or not. I do not have a listing of the 10 children for JAMES and ANN CALDWELL, and whether this JAMES could be the son of an earlier WILLIAM or ANDREW (Brothers) who came to Philadelphia about 1715 from Donegal, Ireland. Both these names show up later in my lines again, with my GGG Grandfather WILLIAM, and his son, ANDREW CALDWELL who married JERUSHA ELLINGTON of Ruseell Co., VA. Some of these CALDWELLS left Lancaster County, PA because of difficulties with the Duth Reformed and had CALDWELL settlements in Augusta County, Cub Creek, VA (do not know County name. I note other CALDWELLS were in Amelia and Betancourt Counties, VA. My GGG Grandfather, WILLIAM, served from Trenton, NJ, so I do not know why that is where he came out of the War, or whether that was where the family was at one time. There are so many WILLIAM CALDWELLS, that it is like hunting for a flea since it is used again and again in many of the different CALDWELL lines.
