John, Thanks for the information. I have a line of Thomson as well as Caldwell. I knew the Thomson line came from Donegal Ireland, (to America c1771) but haven't ventured to look there. I also see the Stephenson line linked with my Caldwells several times. My Caldwell line was said to come from Northern Ireland near Lake Yoh. A recent record I found says that my ancestors came to America c1745 Alexander & Mary, with two brothers of Alexander, David & Oliver & two brothers of Mary's (also a Caldwell/Colwell) but there names are uncertain. One source says Andrew & John while another more reliable source says Joseph & Daniel.
