from "The Daily ME"
DOVER-FOXCROFT - Georgia Morgan Leeger, 89, died Jan. 7, 2004, at a local hospital. She was born Oct. 28, 1914, in Bangor, to Laura Maude (Ellingwood) Calder. Georgia attended Rockwood schools. With her husband, Wesley Morgan, she was a resident of Bradford for 30 years. She was librarian for the town from 1958-1968, and was also a member of the Golden Age Rebekah Lodge No. 45, where she held the office of Noble Grand in 1957. Because she wanted to serve her country, she proudly volunteered over 500 hours for the Civil Defense Skywatch in the 1950's. In later years she explored the American West, returning to Maine in 1997. She left us on the morning of a full moon, so that we could see our way; very quietly, very comfortably, she became our angel in heaven. Georgia loved to travel and explore. She loved escaping up in the mountains and spent many hours searching for special rocks to add to her collection. At night, before bedtime, she always went outside and peered up at the sky as if looking for the answers in life. In her eyes everything in nature was a wonder and a wonder to behold. She taught that wonder and appreciation of nature to her children and grandchildren through living a life of curiosity and inquisitiveness. Those who knew her well will understand that she "left no stone unturned."
She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Leeger of California, on 1985; and by a special companion, Harley Alloway of Colorado, in 1997. She was also predeceased by a son, Tex Morgan, in 1994. She is survived by a son, Wesley Morgan Jr. and his wife, Marilyn, of Glenburn; a daughter, Betty Simpson of Dover-Foxcroft; three grandchildren, Vickilynn Morgan Landman of Baltimore, Md., Tex Morgan Jr. and his wife, Rhonda, of Charleston, and April Bartlett and her husband, Deric, of Hamilton, Ontario; seven great-grandchildren, Stachia, Courtney and Adam Morgan of Bradford, Erica, Bryce, Daniel, and Caleb Bartlett of Hamilton, Ontario; and a great-great-granddaughter, Emily Elizabeth Morgan of Bradford; one brother, Malcolm Newcomb of Rockwood; two sisters, Margaret Davis of Newington, Conn., and Rachel Chase of Greenville; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Mary Bryant of Guilford.
A time of remembrance gathering will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at the home of Betty Simpson on the Holmes Road, Dover-Foxcroft, where memories and refreshments will be shared. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Borestone Mountain Sanctuary, care of Maine Audubon, 20 Gilsland Farm Road, Falmouth, ME 04105. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
