Both spellings of the name are correct. According to history regarding The Campbells of Cawdor, CALDER was the earlier spelling. I am originally from UK but have a record of two forbears who lived and worked in Charleston,S.C. for many years. One brother died in 1833 and is buried in St. Michaels churchyard with a monument to his name. The other brother returned to England. Would love to hear about your family history.
