This is really interesting, my great-grandfather was Alex Calder for Marlboro County SC. Our name is now spelled Caulder and to the best of my knowledge it occurred with his son (my gradfather) Bishop Marvin Caulder who lived and died in Laurinburg, NC. This is only about 15 miles from Laurel Hill where I still have distant relatives. When my father (Shelton Caulder) applied for social security benefits he found out his surname was spelled CALDER on his birth certificate. He was born in Marlboro County SC. Maybe we have some information we can share. If you are interested, let me know via my email address. Thanks.

Shelton Caulder, Jr.
