Barbara, when I hit a dead-end as you have, I turned to DNA. I found matches named Cain, Caine, Kane & Keane in the USA and elsewhere. One family from KY has DNA so close to mine that their ancestor must have been a brother of mine ca 1760, when their family tree commenced. Plus I found matches with other folks from one small part of Ireland, the name of which matched the family farm in Australia.

DNA saved me years of wasted effort following dead-ends in the paper trail.
